Chess Rules

How to Play

• Click or tap a piece to select it
• Valid moves will be highlighted in yellow
• Click or tap a highlighted square to move
• Players take turns moving pieces

Piece Movements

• ♔/♚ King: Moves one square in any direction
• ♕/♛ Queen: Moves any number of squares diagonally or straight
• ♖/♜ Rook: Moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically
• ♗/♝ Bishop: Moves any number of squares diagonally
• ♘/♞ Knight: Moves in an L-shape (2 squares in one direction, then 1 square perpendicular)
• ♙/♟ Pawn: Moves forward one square, captures diagonally

Game Rules

• White moves first
• Capture opponent's pieces by moving onto their square
• Protect your king from check
• Game ends when a king is in checkmate

Tips

• Control the center of the board
• Develop your pieces early
• Keep your king safe
• Look for opportunities to capture opponent's pieces
